this one is perhaps a bit uncharacteristic

arrgh. flat tire.

walking to work is not quite the ideal situation, especially since i have to walk quite a bit at work. my feet are killing me.

fortunately, i have the next two days off. unfortunately, i have the next two days off. my feet are happy but my paycheck will not be.

so, since i have lots of walking to do anyway, i just walk to good old cisco junior college in between shifts at work, since cjc is just around the corner from work and my house is not!

another that is not just around the corner from work is a coffee house. there used to be one, but the last time i looked in through the windows, the furniture was gone and the floor was covered with trash.

there used to be a sign on the door saying "closed for summer vacation! reopening june 22nd!" (although with perhaps less exclamation points); now there is no such sign.

i heard a rumor that they were trying to sell the place, but i at first wrote it off as out-of-date; that rumor had circulated before, and i had, after all, seen the sign. i was better informed and more highly intelligent. they would reopen, i was confident.

whoops. guess not.

here's where i could wax nostalgic about the old place, but it will be easier to change the subject.

i used to play a lot of solitaire on the computer. it's depressing. here i am with a powerful object, capable of many things, but all i can bring myself to do is play solitaire.

the real reason that it's depressing is because it demonstrates my lack of self-control, especially in regards to computers. i start playing solitaire when i'm too burned out to do anything more constructive, and i only get that way after a few hours. i know that i should leave, at that point, but instead i open up a game of solitaire and click, click, click my way further into oblivion.

the pc is the new narcotic.

mmm, perhaps i could make a tie-in here between caffeine and narcotics -- or even between caffeine and computer use in general, seeing how computer junkies tend also to be caffeine junkies -- and thus make it look like i knew what i was talking about the whole time. however, there's not really a clear line open yet -- i.e., it would take a lot of work and it would probably be a vague and strained connection -- and so it's time to ramble some more.

the words "harry potter" just entered my brain, and so i guess that's as good a topic as any. i've only seen the first harry potter movie and haven't read any of the books, so what i'll actually be talking about is what the movie reminded me of, and what i really prefer, viz., discworld.

discworld is a series of books churned out by terry pratchett about once a year. the setting isn't nearly as fantastical as harry potter's in some ways, but it's very detailed and much broader in scope. it's also quite hilarious. that's the main draw, really. nerdy swords-and-sorcery fiction meets british humor. python fans unite?

okay, enough of the book report. that's really dull, i feel. and isn't it important to share one's feelings?
